About

About the Swasti Punyahavachanam with Pandit Ji

Many ceremonies, from a naming to a wedding to a new home, start with the same opening step, and few families can recite it themselves. A pandit leads Swasti Punyahavachanam, so you can begin your event with the right words in the right order.

Punyahavachanam is a Vedic invocation traditionally recited at the start of samskaras and auspicious events. A kalash of water is set up, and prayers ask for the day and the occasion to go well. Many families do it as a standalone ceremony or as the opening of a larger ritual.

Families beginning a griha pravesh, a wedding, a naming or thread ceremony, a new business or any milestone event; people who want a short, traditional start to a larger celebration.

Usually done on the day of the main event, at the start, or a day before. Many families check the muhurat in the panchang, and your pandit can suggest options. Follow your family's custom where it differs.

About 1.5 hours for the standard ceremony; about 2 hours for the extended one.

Choose the standard if this is the opening prayer to a larger event. Choose the extended ceremony if you want it as a fuller standalone ritual.

Choose 'With samagri' and the pandit brings the ritual items. Choose 'Own samagri' if you already have them or prefer to buy them yourself, and ask the pandit for the list in advance.

The host family, especially those hosting the main event. Guests may join for the prayers and aarti.

The exact mantras and stages differ between Vedic shakhas and regions, and some families do a shorter version. Tell us your tradition and the main event when booking.

This ritual uses a diya or lamp and often camphor. Keep the flame on a stable, heat-safe surface away from curtains, children and pets, and keep a little water nearby.

Is it a standalone puja or part of another ceremony? Both. Many families do it as the opening of a larger event, and some hold it on its own.

Can we do it before a wedding or griha pravesh? Yes, many families do. Tell the pandit what the main event is.

How long does it take? About 1.5 hours for the standard ceremony and about 2 hours for the extended one.

Do we need a kalash? Yes, the kalash is central. It comes with samagri, or you can arrange your own.
