About

About the Raja Shyamala Devi Puja with Pandit Ji

Shyamala Devi worship comes from a specialised tradition, and the vidhi is not widely known. If your family has never held it, it is hard to know who to ask or what to arrange. A pandit leads the sequence, so you can concentrate on the puja itself.

Shyamala is traditionally associated with Matangi and, in Sri Vidya traditions, is described as a minister of Lalita Tripura Sundari. She is linked with speech, learning and the arts. Details differ between lineages.

Families who follow Shyamala or Sri Vidya worship; students and artists whose family tradition includes this puja; anyone advised by a guru or elder to hold it.

Many practitioners choose Fridays, Navratri or Shyamala Navaratri, but customs differ by lineage. Your pandit can suggest muhurat options for your date and city; your guru's or family's custom takes priority.

About 1.5 hours for the standard ceremony; about 2 hours for the extended one.

Start with the standard ceremony if this is your first time. Choose the extended one if your guru or family follows the fuller vidhi.

Choose 'With samagri' and the pandit brings the ritual items. Choose 'Own samagri' if you already have them or prefer to buy them yourself; the pandit can share a list before the day.

The person or couple sitting for the puja, with family members who wish to join. Others can come for the aarti and prasad.

Practice varies between Sri Vidya, Tantric and householder lineages, including mantras and offerings. Tell us your tradition when booking so we can match a pandit who follows it.

The puja uses a lit diya and incense. Keep flames on a stable surface, away from curtains and children, and keep water nearby.

How long should I plan for? About 1.5 hours for the standard ceremony and about 2 hours for the extended one, plus a little time to set up.

Is Shyamala Devi the same as Matangi? Many traditions treat Shyamala as closely linked to Matangi, sometimes as another name or form. Your guru or pandit can explain how your lineage sees it.

Do we need to be initiated to hold this puja? Some lineages require initiation for certain mantras. Share your background with us and the pandit will guide you.

What if our family follows a different sequence? Your family's custom takes priority. Share it when you book and the pandit will follow it where possible.
