About

About the Raja Matangi Puja with Pandit Ji

Matangi worship is a specialised tradition, and many families are not sure what the correct sequence, mantras or items are. Getting it wrong is a real worry when you cannot ask someone at home. A pandit who is familiar with the tradition leads the puja, so you can focus on sitting for it.

Matangi is traditionally counted among the Dasa Mahavidyas, the ten wisdom goddesses, and is associated with speech, learning and the arts. Raja Matangi is understood as one form of her worship. Practice differs between lineages, and some follow Tantric or Sri Vidya customs.

Families whose kuldevi or ishta devi is Matangi; students and practitioners of music, speech or the arts who follow this tradition; anyone guided by their family's guru or elders to hold this puja.

Many practitioners choose Fridays, Navratri or specific tithis, but customs differ by lineage. Your pandit can suggest muhurat options for your date and city, and your guru or family custom takes priority.

About 1.5 hours for the standard ceremony; about 2 hours for the extended one.

If you are holding Matangi puja for the first time, start with the standard ceremony. If your guru or family follows the fuller vidhi, choose the extended one.

Choose 'With samagri' and the pandit brings the ritual items. Choose 'Own samagri' if you already have them or prefer to buy them yourself; the pandit can share a list before the day.

The person or couple sitting for the puja, and family members who wish to join. Many families invite others for the aarti and prasad.

Matangi worship varies a lot between Tantric, Sri Vidya and householder traditions. Some lineages have specific mantras, offerings and restrictions. Tell us your tradition when booking so we can match a pandit who follows it.

The puja uses a lit diya and incense. Keep flames on a stable surface, away from curtains and children, and keep water nearby.

How long should I plan for? About 1.5 hours for the standard ceremony and about 2 hours for the extended one, plus a little time to set up.

Is this puja only for people who follow Tantric traditions? No. Many householders hold it as a devotional puja. If your lineage has particular rules, share them when you book.

Do we need a yantra or image? Many families use one. If you do not have it, ask the pandit when booking.

What if our family follows a different sequence? Your family's custom takes priority. Share it when you book and the pandit will follow it where possible.
