About the Saraswati Puja with Pandit Ji

Whether it is Vasant Panchami, a child's first day of writing or the start of an exam year, families want the puja done properly. The items and sequence can be hard to organise on a busy day. A pandit leads the puja, so you can sit with your child and books.

Saraswati is traditionally worshipped as the goddess of learning, speech, music and the arts. Many families place books, pens and instruments before her and offer prayers. Vasant Panchami is the best-known occasion, and some families also begin a child's writing with this puja.

Students and parents; families beginning a child's learning (Vidyarambh or Akshar Abhyasam); teachers and schools; musicians, writers and artists.

Many families hold it on Vasant Panchami, during Navratri (including the Saraswati days), or at the start of an academic year. Your pandit can suggest muhurat options for your date and city, and your family's custom takes priority.

About 2 hours for the standard ceremony; about 3 hours for the extended one.

Choose the standard for a home puja with the family. Choose the extended one for a school, a group or a family that follows the fuller vidhi.

Choose 'With samagri' and the pandit brings the ritual items. Choose 'Own samagri' if you already have them or prefer to buy them yourself; the pandit can share a list before the day.

Saraswati puja differs between Bengali, North Indian and South Indian households. In some, books are kept at the altar for the day. Tell us your tradition when booking.

How long should I plan for? About 2 hours for the standard ceremony and about 3 hours for the extended one, plus a little time to set up.

Do books stay at the altar? Many families keep books and instruments at the altar for the day. Practices vary.
