About

About the Kanakabhishekam with Pandit Ji

Families who ask for Kanakabhishekam often find it hard to know what the ritual involves and who can lead it. A pandit who knows the vidhi leads it with the order and materials clear, so you can take part without worrying.

Abhishekam is the traditional ritual of bathing a deity or image with sacred substances while mantras are recited. Kanakabhishekam is a form of abhishekam linked to gold (kanaka) in South Indian practice. The exact deity, materials and meaning differ by tradition.

Families who follow South Indian traditions and want an abhishekam at home; those who have been advised by a priest or elder to perform it; households who prefer a traditional abhishekam with a pandit.

Timing depends on the deity and the family. Many families choose an auspicious day from the panchang. The pandit can suggest a muhurat on request, and your family's custom takes priority.

About 1.5 hours for the standard ceremony; about 2 hours for the extended one.

If you want the essential ritual, start with the standard. If you want a longer abhishekam, choose the extended ritual.

Choose 'With samagri' and the pandit brings the ritual items. Choose 'Own samagri' if you already have them or prefer to arrange them yourself; the pandit can share the list in advance.

The household and anyone who wants to join. Families decide who sits for the main ritual.

The deity, the materials and the sequence differ across traditions and regions. Tell us your tradition when booking so we can match a pandit who follows it.

A lit diya or lamp is part of the ritual. Keep it on a stable heat-safe surface, away from curtains, children and pets.

Which deity is Kanakabhishekam for? This varies by tradition. Please share your family's custom and the pandit will confirm.

Do we need to provide gold? Not necessarily. Please confirm with the pandit, as practice differs.

How long should I plan for? About 1.5 hours for the standard ritual and about 2 hours for the extended one.

Can we do it on video? Yes, a live video ritual works. The pandit leads and you follow at home with a helper.
