About

About the Kaal Bhairav with Pandit Ji

A Bhairav pooja has its own customs and offerings, and many families are unsure about the details. A pandit leads the vidhi so you can take part with confidence.

Kaal Bhairav is a fierce form of Shiva, revered in many traditions as a guardian of time and of a city or temple. Many families offer prayers to him on Ashtami, especially Kaal Bhairav Ashtami, or on Sundays. The pooja is a traditional offering, not a guarantee of any outcome.

Devotees of Bhairav; families from Varanasi, Ujjain and Nepal traditions; those who follow the monthly Kalashtami observance; people who want a traditional pooja at home.

Many families choose Ashtami, particularly Kaal Bhairav Ashtami in the Margashirsha or Kartik month, depending on the calendar. Some choose a Sunday or Saturday. The pandit can suggest a muhurat, and your family's custom takes priority.

About 1.5 hours for the standard ceremony; about 2 hours for the extended one.

If you want a shorter pooja, start with the standard. If you want more recitation and a fuller vidhi, choose the extended pooja.

Choose 'With samagri' and the pandit brings the ritual items. Choose 'Own samagri' if you already have them or prefer to arrange them yourself; the pandit can share the list in advance.

The household and anyone who wants to join. Families decide who sits for the main pooja.

Offerings and rituals differ by region and family. Some traditions offer certain items that others do not, so tell us your family's custom when booking.

A lit diya or lamp is part of the ritual. Keep it on a stable heat-safe surface, away from curtains, children and pets.

When is the best day? Many families choose Ashtami or a Sunday, but your family's custom takes priority. The pandit can suggest a muhurat.

How long should I plan for? About 1.5 hours for the standard pooja and about 2 hours for the extended one.

What offerings are needed? They vary by family. The pandit will share a list based on your tradition.

Can we do it on video? Yes, a live video pooja works well. The pandit leads and you follow at home.
