About

About the Angaraka Japam with Pandit Ji

A graha japam looks simple, but families often struggle with the details: the right mantra, the pronunciation, the count and the day. A pandit leads the japam and the surrounding pooja, so you are not piecing it together from the internet.

Angaraka is a name for Mangala, the planet Mars, in the Navagraha tradition. Japam is the repeated chanting of a mantra, usually with a small pooja before it. Families traditionally choose it as an act of devotion linked to the planet. It is a ritual, not a guaranteed remedy.

Families who have been advised by their astrologer to do a Mangal graha japam; people who like to mark a Tuesday or a personal date with a focused chanting ritual; households who already follow Navagraha practices.

Many families choose a Tuesday, which is traditionally associated with Mars, or a muhurat given by their astrologer. Your pandit can suggest options for your date and city. If you have a chart-based question about whether to do this ritual, your family astrologer is the right person to ask.

About 2 hours for the standard ceremony; about 3 hours for the extended one.

Choose the standard for the essential japam. Choose the extended if your astrologer or family expects the fuller format.

Choose 'With samagri' and the pandit brings the ritual items. Choose 'Own samagri' if you already have them or prefer to buy them yourself.

The person for whom the japam is being done, or the head of the household, typically sits for it. Family members are welcome to join.

The mantra, the count and the offerings vary by tradition and by what your astrologer advises. South and North Indian practices differ. Share your family's custom when booking.

A diya or lamp is an open flame. Keep it on a stable surface, away from curtains, children and pets, and never leave it unattended.

What is a japam? Japam is the repeated chanting of a mantra, usually after a short pooja. Here the focus is on Angaraka (Mars).

Which day is best? Many families choose a Tuesday, but your astrologer's advice and your family's custom come first.

Do we need an astrologer first? Not to book, but if you have a chart-based question, your family astrologer is the right person to ask.

How many times is the mantra chanted? This varies by tradition and by advice. Tell us your preference when you book and the pandit will confirm.

Can it be done on video? Yes. The pandit leads on video while you follow along at home with your samagri.
