About

About the Chandra Japam with Pandit Ji

A japam sounds simple, but families often struggle with the details: which mantra, how many repetitions, who recites, and when to begin. A pandit takes that planning away and leads the recitation properly, so you can simply sit and take part.

Chandra is the Moon among the navagrahas. Japam is the traditional practice of repeating a mantra in a fixed count, and families sometimes choose it for Chandra as a quiet, devotional ritual. Counts and mantras vary by lineage.

Families who want a mantra-based Chandra ritual; people whose astrologer has suggested Chandra japam; devotees who observe Mondays or Purnima.

Many families choose a Monday or around Purnima, but customs differ. For chart-based questions, consult your family's astrologer. The pandit can suggest muhurat options for your date and city.

About 2 hours for the standard ceremony; about 3 hours for the extended one.

Start with the standard if this is your first japam. Choose the extended if your family wants a fuller recitation or elders ask for it.

Choose 'With samagri' and the pandit brings the ritual items. Choose 'Own samagri' if you already have them or prefer to buy them yourself.

The person for whom the japam is done and any household members who wish to sit. Others can join for the aarti.

The mantra, the count and whether a closing havan is added vary between traditions. Tell us your family's practice when booking.

The ritual uses diyas and incense. Keep lamps on a stable surface, away from curtains and decorations, and keep children and pets at a safe distance.

How many mantra repetitions will be done? The count varies by tradition and tier. Please confirm with us at booking; the pandit will follow your family's custom where possible.

How long should I plan for? About 2 hours for the standard and about 3 hours for the extended ceremony.

Does the family have to chant? No. The pandit recites. Family members may follow along or sit quietly.

Can this be done on video? Usually yes. The pandit leads on video and you arrange a simple setup at home.

Is it linked to astrology? Some families choose it on an astrologer's suggestion. For chart questions, consult your own astrologer.
