About

About the Society Ganpati Puja with Pandit Ji

Organising Ganpati in a housing society means a committee, a schedule, an idol, a pandit and a lot of people to coordinate. Pandit-led sthapana and visarjan take the ritual side off the committee's list, so they can handle everything else.

Ganesh Chaturthi is traditionally the festival of Ganesha's arrival. Many communities install a Ganesh idol, hold daily aarti and immerse it on a chosen day. Sarvajanik celebrations became widespread in Maharashtra and now take place in societies across India.

Housing societies, RWAs and community groups; offices and campuses holding a shared Ganpati; committees who want a pandit for sthapana and visarjan.

Sthapana is on Ganesh Chaturthi, and visarjan on the day the society chooses, such as 1.5, 3, 5, 7 or 10 days later. Your pandit can suggest muhurat options for your date and city, and the society's custom takes priority.

About 2 hours for the standard ceremony; about 3 hours for the extended one.

Choose the standard for a society with a simple programme. Choose the extended ceremony if the committee wants a fuller sthapana or has many residents attending.

Choose 'With samagri' and the pandit brings the ritual items. Choose 'Own samagri' if you already have them or prefer to buy them yourself; the pandit can share a list before the day.

Society Ganpati Puja is best done with the pandit present at the venue, so a live video version is not offered.

A few committee members or families sit for the main ritual, and other residents are welcome for the aarti. The pandit is needed on site, and this ritual is not done on video.

Customs differ between Maharashtrian, Karnataka, Telugu and North Indian communities, including the number of days, the style of the idol and the sequence. Share your society's custom when booking.

Idols can be heavy, so use a stable platform and enough helpers. Keep diyas and camphor away from decorations and crowds. If immersion is in a water body, follow local rules and take care with children. Many societies use a tub or artificial pond.

How long should I plan for? About 2 hours for the standard ceremony and about 3 hours for the extended one, plus a little time to set up.

Do you do visarjan too? Ask when you book. Many pandits can lead the visarjan puja, but the immersion itself is arranged by the society.

Can the pandit come on every day of the festival? This depends on availability and the society's programme. Tell us your schedule when booking.

What if our family follows a different sequence? Your family's custom takes priority. Share it when you book and the pandit will follow it where possible.
