About

About the Dasa Mahavidya Homa with Pandit Ji

Dasa Mahavidya is a ritual families approach carefully, because the practice is specialised and details vary. A pandit who knows it removes the guesswork about sequence, samagri and timing, and leads the havan in order.

The ten Mahavidyas are a group of ten goddess forms in the Shakta tradition. A homa dedicated to them is a fire ritual with mantras and offerings. Traditions, deity order and mantras differ across lineages.

Families following Shakta or Tantric lineages; devotees who observe Mahavidya worship as a custom; families whose guru or astrologer has recommended it.

Many families choose Navratri, especially the Gupt Navratri, or an auspicious day suggested by the panchang. Customs vary. Your pandit can suggest muhurat options and your family's custom comes first.

About 1 hour for the standard ceremony; about 1.5 hours for the extended one.

The standard works for a first or small homa. The extended suits families who follow the fuller procedure or wish to spend more time in invocation.

Choose 'With samagri' and the pandit brings the ritual items. Choose 'Own samagri' if you already have them or prefer to buy them yourself. The Vedic Rituals Havan Pooja Kit packs related essentials if you want to arrange samagri yourself; your pandit will tell you if anything specific to this ritual needs adding.

The family members for whom the homa is being done. Others can join for the purnahuti and prasad.

Mahavidya worship is practised differently across Shakta and Tantric lineages. Tell us your family's tradition so we can match a pandit who follows it.

Havan involves an open flame and smoke. Use a stable heat-safe surface, keep the room ventilated, keep water nearby, and keep flames away from curtains, children and pets. Follow your building's rules on havan in common areas.

Which Mahavidyas are worshipped? The invocation usually names all ten, but the order and emphasis vary by lineage. Share your tradition at booking.

How long should I plan for? About 1 hour for the standard and about 1.5 hours for the extended homa.

Is it linked to astrology? Some families choose it on an astrologer's advice. For chart-based questions, consult your own astrologer.

Can we do it on video? Often yes, but you will need a safe havan setup at home and a helper.

Is the havan mandatory? In a homa, the fire ritual is the core. If your building bars open flames, speak to us first.
