About

About the Bagalamukhi Homam with Pandit Ji

Families who want a Bagalamukhi homam often find it hard to know what samagri is needed and who can lead it correctly. A pandit leads the fire ritual and the mantras, so you can sit around the kund and be part of it.

Bagalamukhi is one of the Dasha Mahavidyas, the ten wisdom goddesses, and is often shown in yellow. A homam to her is a fire ritual with mantras and offerings. Families choose it as an act of devotion. It is not presented here as a way of solving any specific problem.

Devotees of Goddess Bagalamukhi; families whose guru or family tradition includes her worship; people who want a devotional homam under a pandit's guidance.

Families often choose a Tuesday, a Navratri day, or a muhurat given by their astrologer or guru. Your pandit can suggest muhurat options for your date and city. If your family has its own custom, that takes priority.

About 1 hour for the standard ceremony; about 1.5 hours for the extended one.

Choose the standard for a focused devotional homam. Choose the extended if your guru or family follows the fuller vidhi.

Choose 'With samagri' and the pandit brings the ritual items. Choose 'Own samagri' if you already have them or prefer to buy them yourself. The Vedic Rituals Havan Pooja Kit covers the general havan items. Your pandit will tell you if anything specific to this homam, such as yellow items, needs to be added.

The head of the household or the person on whose behalf the homam is done, with family joining as they like.

Mantras, offerings and the colour of items (yellow is widely associated with her) vary by tradition and by guru. If you have a guru's instruction, tell us.

Havan involves an open flame. Use a stable heat-safe surface, keep the space ventilated, keep water nearby, and keep flames away from curtains, children and pets. Follow your building's rules on havan in common areas.

What is Bagalamukhi Homam? A fire ritual with mantras dedicated to Goddess Bagalamukhi, one of the ten Mahavidyas.

Why is yellow used? Yellow is widely associated with her worship. Many families wear or offer yellow items, but practice varies.

Do we need an initiation first? Some traditions prefer it. Check with your guru or family tradition and tell the pandit.

How long should I plan for? About 1 hour for the standard and about 1.5 hours for the extended, plus set-up time.

Can we do it on video? Yes. The pandit leads on video while you follow along with your samagri.
