About

About the Bhumi Pujan with Pandit Ji

Before the first brick, families usually want to get the ritual right: the right time, the right materials, and someone who knows the vidhi. A pandit leads the Bhumi Pujan on site, so you can focus on your plan for the land.

Bhumi Pujan is the traditional ceremony to honour the land before construction begins. Families offer prayers to the earth (Bhumi), to Ganesha and to the deities of the place, and often place a first brick or a kalash. Practice varies by region and family.

Families building a house; builders and developers starting a project; businesses breaking ground for a shop, factory or office.

Many families choose a muhurat from the panchang before the first digging starts. Your pandit can suggest muhurat options for your date and city. If your family has its own custom, that takes priority.

About 2 hours for the standard ceremony; about 4 hours for the extended one.

Choose the standard for a home or a small site. Choose the extended for a larger project, or if your family expects a havan and the fuller vidhi.

Choose 'With samagri' and the pandit brings the ritual items. Choose 'Own samagri' if you already have them or prefer to buy them yourself. The Vedic Rituals Bhoomi Pujan Kit packs the essentials in ritual order, so you do not have to work through a shopping list.

This ritual is best done with the pandit present, so video is not offered.

The owner or the head of the household, and the builder or contractor if they wish. Traditionally the couple sits for the main rituals, though families decide this for themselves.

The first brick, the use of a kalash or silver items, and the directions followed differ across regions. Tell us your tradition and any vastu guidance you follow when booking.

Plots can have uneven ground, loose soil, open pits and construction materials. Keep children and elders back from digging areas, wear sturdy footwear, and keep any havan fire well clear of building materials.

When do we do it? Usually before the first digging starts, at a muhurat. Your pandit can suggest options.

Can the ceremony be done on an empty plot? Yes. Many families hold it on the plot. Share the location so the pandit can plan.

Do we need to buy a brick or foundation stone? Many families keep one ready. Your pandit will tell you what to have.

Is a havan needed? It is included in the extended ceremony. Many families include one, but practice varies.

Can it be done on video? This ritual is best done with the pandit present, so video is not offered.
