About

About the Durga Homam with Pandit Ji

A Durga havan is a familiar ritual in many homes, but the details still catch families out: the mantras, the offerings, the order of steps. A pandit leads the havan and keeps the sequence so you can sit with your family.

Durga is worshipped in many traditions as the goddess associated with strength. A homam dedicated to her is a fire ritual with mantras and offerings. Practice varies by region and family.

Families who offer havan during Navratri; people marking a new beginning or a family occasion with a Durga prayer; households that follow Shakta traditions.

Many families choose Navratri, especially Ashtami or Navami, or any day the pandit suggests from the panchang. Your family's custom takes priority.

About 1 hour for the standard ceremony; about 1.5 hours for the extended one.

Choose the standard for a compact family havan. Choose the extended if you want more time for the invocation and offerings.

Choose 'With samagri' and the pandit brings the ritual items. Choose 'Own samagri' if you already have them or prefer to buy them yourself. The Vedic Rituals Havan Pooja Kit packs related essentials if you want to arrange samagri yourself; your pandit will tell you if anything specific to this ritual needs adding.

Household members, with the head of the family or the couple usually sitting at the havan. Others can join for the purnahuti.

Some families recite Durga Saptashati verses or Navarna mantra during the havan, others do not. Practice varies; share yours when booking.

Havan involves an open flame and smoke. Use a stable heat-safe surface, keep the room ventilated, keep water nearby, and keep flames away from curtains, children and pets. Follow your building's rules on havan in common areas.

Does it include Durga Saptashati path? Not necessarily. Some families add the path. Ask us at booking.

How long should I plan for? About 1 hour for the standard and about 1.5 hours for the extended homam.

Can we do it during Navratri? Yes, many families do, especially on Ashtami or Navami. Book early.

Can we do it on video? Often yes. You arrange samagri and a safe havan setup at home.

Is it different from Durga Puja? Yes. A homam centres on the fire ritual, while Durga Puja is a worship ceremony. Some families do both.
