Vastu Shanti Puja with Pandit Ji

Home visits: Gurugram and Delhi. Live video puja: anywhere in India. Kits ship across India separately.

Vastu Shanti is one of the longer home ceremonies, with many stages, deities and offerings, and most families do not have the full sequence at hand. Two pandits lead the ritual, so you do not have to manage the details.

Why it is done

Vastu Shanti is a traditional ceremony that many families hold for a new home, before or at griha pravesh, or when beginning construction. It includes worship of Vastu Purusha and the directions, navagraha pooja and a havan. Families choose it as a way of marking a new space with prayer. If you have chart or site questions, please consult your astrologer or a Vastu expert.

Who it is for

Families moving into a new home; owners after major construction or renovation; people starting a new office or shop; households whose custom includes a Vastu Shanti.

When to do it

Many families choose a date from the panchang, often before or around griha pravesh. Your pandit can suggest muhurat options. Follow your family's custom where it differs.

Choose your ceremony

About 4 hours for the standard ceremony; about 6 hours for the extended one.

  • Live video puja: A live video Vastu Shanti Puja works if the family is abroad or in another city: the pandit leads on video and you follow along at home. You arrange the samagri yourself, and a helper at home makes the setup and the offerings easier.
  • Standard: The standard ceremony: a longer ceremony with Ganesh and kalash prayers, navagraha pooja, the Vastu mandala worship and a havan. About 4 hours, 15 vidhi steps, led by two pandits.
  • Extended: The extended ceremony: an extended sequence with more mandala worship, more offerings and more time, led by two pandits. About 6 hours, 22 vidhi steps, led by two pandits.

Choose the standard for the essential ceremony with a smaller gathering. Choose the extended ceremony if your family follows the fuller vidhi, or a larger house or event is involved.

Choose 'With samagri' and the pandit brings the ritual items. Choose 'Own samagri' if you already have them or prefer to buy them yourself, and ask the pandit for the list in advance.

The sequence

  1. Pavitrikaran and achaman
  2. Ganesh pooja and sankalp
  3. Kalash sthapana
  4. Navagraha pooja
  5. Worship of the Vastu mandala and the directions
  6. Prayers to the guardian deities of the plot
  7. Havan with offerings around the kund
  8. Purnahuti
  9. Aarti, prasad and visarjan

How to prepare

  • Clean the home and keep the entrance and main room clear
  • Choose the room for the main ritual and confirm space for the mandala and the kund
  • Keep a clean, level floor surface for the kalash and mandala
  • Prepare a fire-safe spot for the havan, with ventilation and water nearby
  • Share the address, the muhurat and the family names with the pandits
  • Decide whether you will use pandit-provided samagri or your own

Who should attend

The household moving in or owning the space. The head of the household or the couple traditionally sits for the main rites. Guests can join for the aarti and prasad.

Your tradition

The sequence differs across North Indian, Maharashtrian, Gujarati and South Indian households, and the deities and mandala details vary. Tell us your tradition and region when booking.

Safety

Havan and diyas involve an open flame. Use a stable heat-safe surface, keep the space ventilated, keep water nearby, and keep flames away from curtains, children and pets. Follow your building's rules on havan in common areas.

Questions

How long should I plan for? About 4 hours for the standard ceremony and about 6 hours for the extended one, plus time to set up.

Why are two pandits needed? Both tiers are led by two pandits because of the length and number of stages.

Is it the same as Griha Pravesh? No. Many families hold both, either together or on different days. Your pandit can advise.

Should I consult an astrologer? If you have questions based on a chart or the property, speak to your family's astrologer or a Vastu expert. The pandit leads the ritual.

Do we need a havan? A havan is a central part of the ceremony. If your building does not allow open flames, speak to the pandit.
