Pratyangira Homam with Pandit Ji

Home visits: Gurugram and Delhi. Live video puja: anywhere in India. Kits ship across India separately.

Homams ask for precision: the right items, the right mantras and an order that cannot be rushed. A pandit leads the homam and keeps the sequence, so you can focus on sitting calmly through it.

Why it is done

Pratyangira is a goddess worshipped in the Shakta tradition, especially in parts of South India. Many families and devotees perform a homam with mantra recitation and offerings into the sacred fire as an act of worship. Practice varies widely, and no outcome is promised.

Who it is for

Devotees of the goddess; families whose guru, tradition or astrologer has suggested it; people who want a homam performed properly by a pandit.

When to do it

Many choose a date from the panchang, and some prefer specific tithis such as Amavasya in their tradition. Your pandit can suggest muhurat options. Your family's or guru's custom takes priority.

Choose your ceremony

About 1 hour for the standard ceremony; about 1.5 hours for the extended one

  • Live video puja: A live video Pratyangira Homam works if the family is abroad or in another city: the pandit leads on video and you follow along at home. You arrange the samagri yourself, and a helper at home makes the ritual easier. A helper at home is important because of the homam fire.
  • Standard: The standard ceremony: about 1 hour with one pandit and 15 vidhi steps. It covers sankalp, Ganesh and kalash worship, prayers to the goddess and a homam.
  • Extended: The extended ceremony: about 1.5 hours with one pandit and 22 vidhi steps. It adds more rituals and recitation. The pandit confirms what is included.

Choose the standard for a shorter homam. Choose the extended if your tradition or guru asks for fuller recitation.

Choose 'With samagri' and the pandit brings the ritual items. Choose 'Own samagri' if you already have them or prefer to buy them yourself. The samagri for a homam is specific to the ritual, so ask the pandit for the list if you arrange it yourself.

The sequence

  4. Invocation and worship of the goddess
  5. Mantra recitation
  6. Homam with offerings into the fire

How to prepare

  • Keep a clean, level area for the homam kund and kalash
  • Ask the pandit about clothing and offerings for your tradition
  • Keep a fire-safe spot with ventilation and water nearby
  • Share your guru's or family's instructions with the pandit
  • Decide who will sit for the homam
  • Decide whether you will use the pandit's samagri or arrange items yourself

Who should attend

The person or household performing the homam. Others can join for the aarti and prasad, as per family custom.

Your tradition

The mantras, items, counts and the tithi chosen differ by lineage and by region, and some traditions treat this goddess with extra care. Tell us your tradition at booking.

Safety

Havan and diyas involve an open flame. Use a stable heat-safe surface, keep the space ventilated, keep water nearby, and keep flames away from curtains, children and pets. Follow your building's rules on havan in common areas.
