Nadi Dosh Nivaran Puja with Pandit Ji

Home visits: Gurugram and Delhi. Live video puja: anywhere in India. Kits ship across India separately.

Nadi in a kundli match can leave a family with more questions than answers, and the ritual that follows comes with its own list: the right date, the right pandits, the samagri. A pandit leads the vidhi so you can spend your attention on the decision, not the logistics.

Why it is done

Nadi is one of the eight factors considered when horoscopes are matched in the traditional ashtakoota system. Some families choose a shanti ritual with prayers and a havan when an astrologer points to a Nadi concern. Views on how important it is, and on what a ritual can do, differ between astrologers and families.

Who it is for

Families whose astrologer has suggested a ritual in connection with Nadi in a marriage match; couples and parents who want to follow their family's custom before or around the wedding.

When to do it

Timing depends on your chart and your family's practice, and often falls before the wedding. Please ask your astrologer, as this is a chart-based question. The pandit can suggest muhurat options for the day, and your family's custom takes priority.

Choose your ceremony

About 3 hours for the standard ceremony; about 4.5 hours for the extended one

  • Live video puja: A live video Nadi Dosh ritual works if the family is abroad or in another city: the pandit leads on video and you follow along at home. You arrange the samagri yourself, and a helper at home makes the ritual easier. A helper at home is useful because there is a havan.
  • Standard: The standard ceremony: about 3 hours with two pandits and 18 vidhi steps. It covers sankalp, Ganesh and kalash worship, deity prayers, mantra recitation and a havan.
  • Extended: The extended ceremony: about 4.5 hours with two pandits and 27 vidhi steps. It adds further rituals and more time at each stage. The pandit confirms what is included before your date.

If your family wants the essential ritual, start with the standard. If your astrologer or elders have asked for a fuller vidhi, choose the extended ceremony.

Choose 'With samagri' and the pandit brings the ritual items. Choose 'Own samagri' if you already have them or prefer to buy them yourself. The list depends on the format your family chooses, so ask the pandit for it early if you are arranging items yourself.

The sequence

  1. Purification and sankalp with the family's details
  2. Ganesh pooja to begin
  3. Kalash sthapana
  4. Prayers to the Navagraha and the family's deities
  5. Recitation of mantras by the pandits
  6. Havan with the family around the kund
  7. Purnahuti
  8. Aarti, closing prayers and prasad

How to prepare

  • Speak to your astrologer first, and share their guidance with the pandit
  • Agree on the date and muhurat with both families if the ritual relates to a match
  • Keep a clean, level area for the kalash, seating and havan kund
  • Keep a fire-safe spot with ventilation and a bucket of water nearby
  • Decide who will sit for the ritual, as per your family's custom
  • Decide whether you will use the pandit's samagri or arrange items yourself

Who should attend

Usually the person or couple concerned and their parents, but families decide this for themselves. Relatives can join for the aarti and prasad.

Your tradition

Whether a ritual is held, and what it contains, varies across regions, communities and astrologers. Some families do a different shanti ritual for the same concern. Share your tradition and your astrologer's advice at booking.

Safety

Havan and diyas involve an open flame. Use a stable heat-safe surface, keep the space ventilated, keep water nearby, and keep flames away from curtains, children and pets. Follow your building's rules on havan in common areas.
