Many families want to do a proper Hanuman pooja but are unsure about the order, the offerings and the recitations. A pandit takes charge of the vidhi so you can sit and take part without worrying about getting it right.
Why it is done
Hanuman is revered across India as a figure of devotion, strength and service to Rama. Many families offer prayers to him on Tuesdays and Saturdays, on Hanuman Jayanti, or when beginning something new. The pooja often includes recitation of the Hanuman Chalisa.
Who it is for
Devotees of Hanuman who want a home pooja; families marking Hanuman Jayanti or a Tuesday or Saturday observance; people starting a new venture or a new home and wanting a Hanuman pooja as part of it.
When to do it
Many families choose a Tuesday or Saturday, or Hanuman Jayanti, usually in the morning or evening. The pandit can suggest a muhurat on request, and your family's custom takes priority.
Choose your ceremony
About 1.5 hours for the standard ceremony; about 2 hours for the extended one.
- Live video puja: A live video Hanuman Aaradhana works well if family is abroad or in another city: the pandit leads on video and you follow along at home. You arrange the samagri yourself, and a helper at home makes the setup easier.
- Standard: The standard pooja: ganesh pooja, sankalp, Hanuman pooja and recitation of the Chalisa, about 14 steps with one pandit.
- Extended: The extended pooja: the standard sequence with a longer set of prayers and more recitation, about 21 steps with one pandit.
If you want a shorter pooja and a smaller gathering, start with the standard. If you want more recitation and a fuller vidhi, choose the extended pooja.
Choose 'With samagri' and the pandit brings the ritual items. Choose 'Own samagri' if you already have them or prefer to arrange them yourself; the pandit can share the list in advance.
