Many families start a new venture, a move or a ceremony with a Ganpati pooja, but are unsure of the steps. A pandit leads the worship in order so you can focus on the occasion.
Why it is done
Ganesha is traditionally worshipped first, at the start of any undertaking or ceremony. A Ganpati pooja is a short worship with offerings and aarti. Customs vary by region and family.
Who it is for
Families beginning a new home, business, school year or journey; people who wish to do a short pooja before a larger ceremony; first-time hosts.
When to do it
Many families choose Chaturthi or Wednesdays, but any day can work. Your pandit can suggest muhurat options. Your family's custom takes priority.
Choose your ceremony
About 1 hour for the standard ceremony; about 1.5 hours for the extended one.
- Live video puja: A live video version works well if the family is abroad or in another city: the pandit leads on video and you follow along at home. You arrange the samagri yourself, and a helper at home makes it easier.
- Standard: The standard ceremony: about 12 steps over roughly 1 hour with one pandit, covering sankalp, invocation, worship and aarti.
- Extended: The extended ceremony: about 18 steps over roughly 1.5 hours with one pandit, with a fuller worship and more offerings.
Choose the standard for a short pooja. Choose the extended if you want more time with the worship.
Choose 'With samagri' and the pandit brings the ritual items. Choose 'Own samagri' if you already have them or prefer to buy them yourself.

Customs vary by region. South Indian, Maharashtrian and North Indian families use different offerings. Share yours when booking.
Safety
The ritual uses diyas and incense. Keep lamps on a stable surface, away from curtains and decorations, and keep children and pets at a safe distance.
