Ekadasha Rudram Homam with Pandit Ji

Home visits: Gurugram and Delhi. Live video puja: anywhere in India. Kits ship across India separately.

Ekadasha Rudram is a long and specialised ritual, and families often don't know how it is planned, how many pandits are needed or how long it runs. A pandit explains the format and takes charge of the recitation and the havan.

Why it is done

Rudram is a Vedic hymn dedicated to Shiva, traditionally recited in the Rudra form, with the eleven-fold recitation known as Ekadasha Rudram. Families often combine it with abhishek and homam. Formats vary widely.

Who it is for

Families who follow Shaiva traditions; households marking a significant life event; devotees who offer Rudram on Mahashivratri or a Monday.

When to do it

Many families choose Mondays, Pradosh, Mahashivratri or the month of Shravan, but this varies. Your pandit can suggest muhurat options and your family's custom takes priority.

Choose your ceremony

About 1 hour for the standard ceremony; about 1.5 hours for the extended one.

  • Standard: The standard ceremony: about 15 steps over roughly 1 hour with one pandit. A full Ekadasha Rudram usually needs more time and more pandits, so this is being confirmed.
  • Extended: The extended ceremony: about 22 steps over roughly 1.5 hours with one pandit, with a fuller recitation and more offerings.

Ask us about the exact format at booking: what the standard and extended versions cover and how many pandits are needed for a fuller recitation.

Choose 'With samagri' and the pandit brings the ritual items. Choose 'Own samagri' if you already have them or prefer to buy them yourself.

Video option

A live video version of Ekadasha Rudram Homam may be possible, but it needs confirming with us first because of the format and length. Tell us your plan when you enquire.

The sequence

  1. Purification and sankalp
  2. Ganesh worship
  3. Kalash sthapana
  4. Shiva invocation
  5. Rudram recitation
  6. Lighting of the havan
  7. Offerings with Rudra mantras
  8. Purnahuti
  9. Aarti and prasad

How to prepare

  • Choose a quiet, ventilated space
  • Keep a fire-safe spot with water nearby
  • Keep a clean surface for the kalash and Shiva image or lingam
  • Share the names of those for whom the sankalp is taken
  • Confirm the format and number of pandits with us
  • Decide whether you will use the pandit's samagri or your own

Who should attend

The household. The family member(s) for whom the homa is done usually sit at the havan. Others can join for the purnahuti.

Your tradition

Ekadasha Rudram may be done as eleven recitations by one pandit or by eleven pandits, and with or without abhishek. Share your family's practice when booking.

Safety

Havan involves an open flame and smoke. Use a stable heat-safe surface, keep the room ventilated, keep water nearby, and keep flames away from curtains, children and pets. Follow your building's rules on havan in common areas.
