Chandra Dosh Nivaran Puja with Pandit Ji

Home visits: Gurugram and Delhi. Live video puja: anywhere in India. Kits ship across India separately.

Families who look into a Chandra-related puja often arrive with a lot of questions and very little clarity on what the ritual involves, which items are needed, or how long it runs. A pandit team explains the vidhi, brings the sequence in order and leads the mantras, so you can sit through it without managing the details.

Why it is done

Chandra is the Moon among the navagrahas, and traditionally associated with the mind, mother and emotions. A Chandra shanti puja is a ritual of prayer and mantra dedicated to Chandra, often including a jaap and a havan. Beliefs and practices around it vary by family and lineage.

Who it is for

Families whose astrologer has suggested a Chandra-related shanti in a chart reading; people who wish to mark a Monday or Purnima with Chandra worship; families who follow this as a household custom.

When to do it

Many families choose a Monday, or a day around Purnima, though this varies. Chart-based questions are best taken to your family's astrologer. Your pandit can suggest muhurat options for your date and city, and your family's custom takes priority.

Choose your ceremony

About 3 hours for the standard ceremony; about 4.5 hours for the extended one.

  • Live video puja: A live video version works well if the family is abroad or in another city: the pandit leads on video and you follow along at home. You arrange the samagri yourself, and a helper at home makes it easier.
  • Standard: The standard ceremony: about 22 steps over roughly 3 hours with two pandits. It typically covers purification, sankalp, Ganesh and kalash worship, Shiva and Chandra worship, mantra jaap, havan and aarti.
  • Extended: The extended ceremony: about 33 steps over roughly 4.5 hours, again with two pandits. It gives more time at each stage and a fuller mantra jaap, for families who follow the longer vidhi.

Choose the standard if you want the core ritual in a manageable time. Choose the extended if your astrologer or family elders have asked for a fuller jaap and vidhi.

Choose 'With samagri' and the pandit brings the ritual items. Choose 'Own samagri' if you already have them or prefer to buy them yourself.

The sequence

  1. Purification and sankalp stating your family's details
  2. Ganesh worship to begin
  3. Kalash and Gauri-Ganesh pooja
  4. Invocation of the matrikas
  5. Shiva pooja
  6. Chandra mantra jaap by the pandits
  7. Havan
  8. Aarti and pushpanjali
  9. Prasad and teertha distribution

How to prepare

  • Clean the space and choose a quiet room for the ritual
  • Keep a clean, level surface for the kalash and puja items
  • Arrange a fire-safe spot for the havan with ventilation and water nearby
  • Wear clean, comfortable clothes; many families prefer light or white colours for Chandra
  • Confirm who will sit for the sankalp and share names and gotra with the pandit
  • Decide in advance whether you will use pandit-brought samagri or your own

Who should attend

The family member(s) for whom the puja is being done, plus household members who wish to join. Guests can come for the aarti and prasad.

Your tradition

The count of mantra repetitions, the day chosen and the materials used differ between traditions and pandits. Tell us your family's practice and language when booking so we can match a pandit who follows it.

Safety

Havan involves an open flame and smoke. Use a stable heat-safe surface, keep the room ventilated, keep water nearby, and keep flames away from curtains, children and pets. Follow your building's rules on havan in common areas.

Questions

Does this puja fix a Chandra dosh? We do not make that claim. It is a traditional ritual families choose for Chandra worship. For questions about your chart, please speak with your family's astrologer.

How long should I plan for? About 3 hours for the standard and about 4.5 hours for the extended ceremony, plus setup time.

Why are two pandits involved? Mantra jaap and havan are usually shared between pandits so the recitation continues smoothly. Both tiers include two pandits.

Do we need to fast? Practice varies. Some families keep a light fast on the day, others do not. Follow your family's custom and ask the pandit if unsure.

Can it be done at home? Yes, most families hold it at home. If your building restricts open flames, speak to us about options before booking.
