Ritual readiness

Know what happens before the first diya

A compact first-journey ritual that gathers the car-specific pieces without turning delivery day into another shopping list.

Who joins
Driver and family, ideally with one person guiding the sequence

Safety first

Keep flame, camphor, oil and loose powder outside the vehicle. Perform the ritual only while fully parked in a safe place.

Before the day

Three moments to prepare

  1. 1

    Before collection

Choose a safe open place where the car can remain parked for 20 minutes.

  2. 2

    The evening before

Arrange flowers and sweets; check whether the dealership has any restrictions.

  3. 3

    Just before

Park, switch off the engine and lay the thali outside the driver-side door.

Small things that make it easier

  1. 01

Remove powder from paintwork promptly with a soft damp cloth.

  2. 02

Secure any dashboard idol before driving.

  3. 03

If the venue does not allow flame, use the diya only at home and continue the remaining steps by the car.

Know your ritual

The ritual, in order

A compact beginning for the first journey in a new car.

The same steps are printed on the card inside — written to inform, never to prescribe.

  1. 01

    Set the space

Clear a low table, wipe it down, lay the cotton asan.

  2. 02

    Begin

Light the diya first, then the incense. Ring the bell once.

  3. 03

    Offer

Water, flowers, then the prasad you've made or bought.

  4. 04

    Close

Sit for a minute before you get up. That minute is the point.

Ritual language

Words you'll meet in the guide

Nazar battu
A protective symbol often tied or placed during a new beginning.
Akshat
Unbroken rice used as an offering.
Sankalp
A clearly stated intention for the ritual.

After the ritual

  1. 01

    Compost flowers where possible.

  2. 02

Keep the card with the vehicle documents or home mandir.

  3. 03

Store the thali and diya for future family rituals.

Where it comes from

Made by four workshops, not a factory

Clay from Khurja, brass from Moradabad, cotton from Erode, and a small studio in Delhi that prints the guides. Repeat orders, fair rates, and the same hands each season.

Clay diyas, brass pooja items, cotton wicks and a printed guide card on ivory linen
