A basic clay diya is the one every home reaches for, and a pack of ten means the lamps are ready before the pooja begins. These are plain terracotta-coloured diyas, simple in shape, made for the daily aarti at the home mandir as much as for festival evenings.
Many families light one diya each morning or evening at the altar, and more on days like Diwali, Dhanteras and Navratri. Having ten to hand covers the mandir, the doorstep and the window, so you are not counting diyas on the busiest evening of the year. Customs on how many to light differ by family, so follow yours.
Fill a diya with oil or ghee, set a cotton wick in it and light it on a stable, heat-safe plate. Clay is a traditional material for a diya, and it suits a plain, unfussy pooja. You receive one pack of 10 basic clay diyas. Size and finish can vary slightly from piece to piece. The ritual is yours. The preparation is ours.

Place the diya on a stable, heat-safe plate or tray first.
Fill it with oil or ghee and set a cotton wick in it.
Light the wick and let the diya burn in a draught-free spot.
Let it burn out and cool fully before you move it.
In the packKeep the diyas in a dry place. Wipe off old oil with a dry cloth once cool, and avoid soaking them in water for long.
Open flame. Place diyas on a stable heat-safe surface, away from curtains, children and pets, and never leave a lit diya unattended. The diya stays hot after the flame is out.
Diyas, wicks and oil or ghee are separate items. This pack holds the diyas only. Size and shade can vary slightly between pieces.
